The main driver for the ongoing investments of German companies in Romania, besides the fact that Germany is the most important economy in Europe for the past 35 years, was the fact that we have a relevant German community, traditionally located in the center - western part of the country, in cities such as Sibiu, Brasov, but also in other regions, including in the capital Bucharest.
Another reason many German companies, large or smaller, decided to consider Romania as a business location, is the fact that they were able to find good labor skills in technical areas, at affordable salary levels - levels that have gradually increased, but are still among the lowest in Europe.
The third reason the center - western part of Romania has been the preferred location for European manufacturing companies is the proximity to the border, giving them quick access to the network of highways connecting the major industrial hubs on the continent.
In this respect, what is also important to mention is the fact that the network of Romanian highways is currently rapidly expanding, and not only in the western part of Romania (Transilvania), but also in the whole country.
What makes Romania an interesting business partner for the coming years
So, by end of 2025, an entirely new highway will connect Bucharest to NE Romania (towards Ukraine and Rep. Moldova), by 2027 we will have several highways connecting our western border to the Black Sea ports, giving access to affordable transportation towards Asia and other locations in the world, and by 2030 there will be other new highways finalized crossing the country from west to east, and from the northern region towards Bucharest and our southern border, giving also access to cheap transportation solutions over the river Danube, towards Western Europe.
